Polluted wastewater is transported by a pump or flows in by gravity through the inlet piped into a rotating cylindrical screen. The water flows through the holes of the cylindrical screen and falls into the drain pan. From there, it flows outside through a pipe separator (to the sump, or to the next level of cleaning). Impurities whose size exceeds size of the slot, they remain caught on the inner surface of the cylindrical sieve and due to the rotation, they roll down the walls of the screw towards the open end. They fall on a lunge (slide) and to container, which is not part of the separator delivery. It is also possible to install an auger under the outlet transport the conveyor and dirt to the necessary place for disposal.

The separator is used to separate mechanical pollution from industrial and municipal pollution wastewater.
